Youtube's New Video Page Layout Fails

After getting my first glimpse of Youtube's new video page layout, I became pissed. I mean, really pissed! Before I get any further, if you haven't already, then go watch a video, pause it, and pay attention to everything around the video player. The new layout is messed up beyond all belief in my opinion and it's just a huge downgrade. There are so many flaws with this layout than you can shake a stick at. In fact, let's name a few.

You remember the related videos section at the right side of the page? How organized that was? Well Youtube screwed this up real bad. With this new layout, you have to scroll the whole page down to see all the related videos. This also gets in the way of watching videos, and I do not approve of that.

Next thing that's wrong is the rating system. It used to be a 5 star rating system, but now it's just a thumbs up and thumbs down. I saw the last rating system to be more accurate because it allowed more rating options, which means more detailed opinions about videos. The new rating system however is pretty much a middle finger to everyone with a detailed opinion.

Then there is the comment section. There have been a few downgrades in this area. Now the comments are smaller in size and more packed together, making it harder to read what other people think of the video, or suggestions on how to make the video better.

There's one last thing about this layout that I really want to talk about. And that would be what was formerly know as the description box. The description box has now been split into two parts, one part above the video, the other half below. Youtube put the video description underneath the video and they kept the more info option in this section. But this presents a problem, because pressing the more info option lowers the comment section. The upper section is now the direct link to the creators channel, the more videos by this user option, and the subscription option. The real problem in this area comes from the more videos by this user option. When you click it, yet again, it lowers the screen. This results in more interference with video watching, thus ticking off Youtube users.

Overall, the only way I can sum up the new video page is like this. It's like comparing the project of a super genius with the project of a stoner. The genius, being the previous layout, keeps his project as organized as possible. He gets an A+ because of this. The stoner, being the new layout, was high when working on his project. He got an F- and failed the class.

In short, the new video page fails big time.

If you want me to talk about something that pisses you off, leave a comment on either this blog or on my Youtube page http://www.youtube.com/user/Pianodeity08?feature=mhw5 You can also email me at pianodeity08@yahoo.com.Thank you for your time and I'll see you in another blog.

*UPDATE*
As of April 6th, 2010, Youtube has began to listen to Youtube users about the channel design and are considering the action of making some changes. The following link will explain more on this matter.
